Parents like the fact that there is no spoon feeding. Pupils are guided and supported to think independently from the start. Some self-consciousness about the antiquated nature of ‘Ladies’ in the school name. Since 2011, Eve Jardine-Young. An old girl herself, she won a scholarship to the sixth form here from her school in Malawi where she grew up. Previously director of studies at Blundell’s, she was also housemistress and head of sixth form development at Epsom College. She started her professional life as a structural engineer after studying engineering at Cambridge before changing tack to teach economics at Radley.
Parents remark on the strength of her relationship with the girls, who hold her in high esteem. She thinks hard about behaviour management and prefers, she says, to avoid ‘thou shalt not’ which contradicts the power of ‘thou shalt’.
