Beyond Autism staff work hard to arrange outings, trips and visits around London so students can enjoy social and leisure activities, ranging from visits to exhibitions and summertime picnics in one of the nearby parks to an individual outing for a special interest. Students have access to cookery groups, clay modelling, computer-aided design and card-making, among others. For some it is part of their individual programme. Interim Assistant Director of Education
Since January 2024, Laurence McKell, known within the organisation as interim assistant director of education for all three Beyond Autism post 19+ sites. Originally trained as a secondary school geography teacher, moving on to senior management posts at Mount St Mary’s College, an independent Catholic school, and Queen Ethelburga’s Collegiate in Yorkshire before moving to London to take up the headship of a special school in Chelsea. He has over 20 years’ experience in education management, improving schools and promoting good practice in both mainstream and special schools. He sits on governing bodies and is a trustee of other independent schools.
