Broomwood Prep – Boys

What says..

Committed staff provide mostly inspiring teaching and ‘really get what makes each child tick,’ according to parents. ‘I haven’t come across a single teacher where I’ve thought, “Damn, I didn’t want them,”’ approved one. Their superpower? Transforming shy boys lacking in confidence into enthusiastic learners and talented public speakers. All boys are issued iPads and there’s good use of technology well integrated into teaching – so much so that the school is thinking of turning the IT suite into another art space – ‘We’ve come full cycle!’ Classrooms full of...

What the school says...

We may be a London prep school but in our outlook and ethos we are closer to a traditional country prep school in that our focus is on educating the 'whole boy'. Most boys leave us at 13 to some of the country's top public schools - both day and boarding. We are rightly proud of our boys’ outstanding successes in Common Entrance, but we’re just as proud of their feats on the sports field as well as in the music, art and drama that are embedded into our broad and wide-ranging curriculum. Perhaps more than this, we measure our success, as a school, by the character and manners of our boys.

Entrance

In September 2023, co-ed Broomwood Hall Lower School became Broomwood Pre-Prep; Broomwood Hall Upper School became Broomwood Prep – Girls and Northcote Lodge became Broomwood Prep – Boys. Automatic entry (unless there’s a good reason) from pre-prep to prep (joining at year 3), as well as for siblings and children of alumni, plus those from other Dukes Education settings.

Year 3 no longer the main entry point, with children joining all year groups – sometimes mid-year. In fact, biggest growth area is...

Special Education Needs

We provide support teaching from our full time Learning Support teacher for those with mild special needs. A prospective pupil requiring more than one hour's support during the week would probably not be best served by Northcote Lodge. Currently about a sixth of boys receive half an hour or more of support each week. The majority of such boys will be in Years 4 and 5. As they move up the school many find that such help is no longer required. 09-09
