A school where exciting stuff is going on inside and out. The overriding impression is that the curriculum here is considered, connected and clever and, with most pupils having a clear path into the senior school, the 11-plus is less disruptive than elsewhere. Colfe's Preparatory is a co-educational school for boys and girls aged 3-11. The majority of our pupils continue into the Senior School at 11, although we also prepare our pupils for entry into local grammar schools.

All-through school (for example 3-18 years). - An all-through school covers junior and senior education. It may start at 3 or 4, or later, and continue through to 16 or 18. Some all-through schools set exams at 11 or 13 that pupils must pass to move on.

Head
Since 2022, Marie-Clare Gilfedder-Bonnar. Raised in Paisley, she attended a Jesuit college in Glasgow (where she met her future husband). Opting for a slightly unconventional route into teaching, she read law at Strathclyde University and spent a year touring and dancing in America before completing her PGCE in Glasgow. Teaching experience in Renfrewshire (state and independent) and Amsterdam (British school) before moving to London where she spent a year at a small independent school in Clapham then four at Dulwich Prep while completing an Open University psychology degree in her spare time. Ten years at Blackheath High Juniors followed, where she rose to deputy head, before accepting the position at Colfe’s.
