What says..

The nursery and pre-prep, situated in a charming Victorian house (less sightly additions behind) on the gracious western edge of Bath, could hardly provide a more delightful start to a child’s education. Academic expectations start to show early on in KS1, however. Any perfectionist tendencies are discouraged – here it’s all about progress, higher level thinking and adventurous minds, as the school’s strapline puts it. No one will be left languishing in the...

What the school says...

The Junior School is a thriving co-educational day school. Academic standards are high and success is celebrated across all our children's achievements. Pupils are encouraged to 'have a go' and take full advantage of the wide range of opportunities available, both inside and outside the classroom. Art, drama, music and sport are all strengths of the school. The school enjoys excellent facilities and benefits greatly from access to the senior school facilities. Provision for children with learning support needs has been greatly developed in recent years and a team of four specialist staff now support children with conditions such as dyslexia, dyspraxia and autistic spectrum disorders. Children enjoy their time at King Edward's Junior School becoming confident and competent young learners ready to progress to the senior school.

King Edward's Pre-Prep and Nursery is part of the family of King Edward's Schools. The Pre-Prep and Nursery is a happy, secure and stimulating environment where young learners can thrive. Nurturing and enthusiastic teachers encourage the children providing the best start possible for happy learners. The Pre-Prep is well equipped. The attractive enclosed grounds include an environmental pond and wildlife area plus play equipment which provides the children with opportunities for quiet activities, group games, imaginative play, climbing, balancing & physical challenge. Children are encouraged to develop independence and skills at their own pace, whilst always having access to the provision of new opportunities and experiences. They receive individual support from fully qualified and dedicated staff.

What The Good Schools Guide says

Head teacher

Since 2024, Sean Price BA PGCE, previously head at Westonbirt Prep School for seven years. A degree in English Language from Cardiff preceded a brief career in sales, before the call of teaching proved too hard to resist. He brings experience both of the state and maintained sectors, and holds various roles within IAPS, including National Sports Committee chair and director.

Since 2008, head of the pre-prep is Jayne Gilbert, previously deputy at Bedales Prep. She has also spent time teaching in Penang. A deeply reassuring warm head who devotes as much focus to the breadth and creativity of the curriculum as to its (undoubted) academic rigour, she is exactly the sort of calm, motherly yet authoritative person you would be happy to leave your 3-year-old with of a morning....
